The choral concert on Sunday 12 May 2019 at 7.30pm will be a performance in St Saviour's Church of Verdi's Requiem which we last performed in 2014.

The soloists are soprano Elizabeth Roberts, contralto Susan Legg, tenor Mark Le Brocq, bass Jozik Kotz.

Rehearsals for players are on the website and the orchestramanager@eso.org.uk will be in touch later about these.

For the singers, we shall be holding two preliminary Saturday afternoon rehearsals in All Saints' Church on 9 February and 2 March 2.30-4.30pm to gauge the number of singers who will join us. Verdi's Requiem requires large forces, as many will know, so please spread the word. I have about 40 vocal copies (New Novello) available to borrow for these first two sessions but please bring your own if you have one. You don’t need to let me know beforehand if you are going to join us. Just turn up and fill in your details on the individual forms which will be handed to you on arrival.

If we feel confident that we have enough singers (there seems currently to be great interest from many singers, so we are hopeful that all should be well), then we shall rehearse on most of the following dates (final list of dates to be decided nearer the time). Please spread the word!

(9 Feb and 2 Mar preliminary Sat afternoon rehearsals 2.30-4.30pm to gauge interest)

Thu 4 April (7.30-9pm)

Sat 6 Apr (2.30-4.30pm)

Thu 11 April (7.30-9pm)

Sat 13 April (2.30-4.30pm)

Thu 18 April (7.30-9pm)

Thu 25 April (7.30-9pm)

Thu 2 May (7.30-9pm)

Thu 9 May (7.30-9pm)

Sun 12 May (2.30-5.30pm)

By the way, Easter Day is 21 April; Bank Holiday weekend is 3/4/5 May.

As ever, we hope that most singers will be able to join us for most of the rehearsals but understand that many belong to other choirs and have other commitments. We also welcome, as you know, singers who know the work well and are competent enough to join us for perhaps only a few of the rehearsals and who enjoy singing this work in particular. To ease the burden of administration, our method of collecting subs (which obviously are crucial to offset the inevitable high cost of choral concerts) in recent years has worked well: £5 per rehearsal (most people pay on the day) but no more than £25 in total however many rehearsals you attend. We are delighted that Nick Houghton, known to many of you, has agreed to be our rehearsal accompanist.
